จุดเริ่มต้นของความสำเร็จของโครงการซอฟต์แวร์ ก็คือ ความสามารถประมาณขนาดและจำนวนวันที่ใช้ในการพัฒนาโครงการได้อย่างถูกต้อง ซึงขนาดและจำนวนวันที่ต้องการเป็นต้นทุนหลักของโครงการซอฟต์แวร์ หากสิ่งเหล่านี้ประมาณผิดพลาดก็หมายถึงโครงการต้องขาดทุนทันที

รากฐานของการประเมินได้อย่างถูกต้องจำเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่จะต้องเข้าใจลักษณะโดยธรรมชาติของงานซอฟต์แวร์และย่อยงาน (Breakdown) งานอย่างถูกวิธี เข้าใจถึงการประมาณขนาดของงาน จึงนำไปสู่การประมาณความพยายาม (Man-Day) และระยะเวลาที่ต้องใช้อย่างถูกต้อง

ในหลักสูตร วิทยากรได้เปิดเผยสูตรเฉพาะในการประมาณระยะเวลาที่เคยใช้กว่า70โครงการอย่างประสบความสำเร็จ ผู้เข้ารับการอบรมจึงสามารถนำไปใช้กับทีมงานที่มีระดับความชำนาญแตกต่างกันอีกด้วย
